About us

People who move to the UK need English language skills to access training, gain employment and participate in society. Enabling new arrivals and longer-term residents to fulfil their potential is fundamental: migrants bring with them valuable abilities, qualifications and experience which can lie untapped unless they have the chance to learn English to an appropriate level. The way that this is achieved is through English language provision known as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

It can be very difficult to find information about ESOL classes. This website helps by listing all English language education providers and their classes in East Midlands, for anyone who wants to learn English and anyone who is helping them.

Why English language support matters

When people move to the UK, learning English can make day-to-day life easier. It can help with things like:

  • joining a course or training programme
  • looking for work
  • feeling more confident when speaking English
  • meeting people and feeling part of the local community
  • managing appointments, forms, travel and other everyday tasks

Many migrants come to the UK with skills, qualifications and experience. English language support can help people use those strengths and build new opportunities here.

Who runs the project?

MESH works with learners, tutors, providers and organisations across the East Midlands to improve access to English language learning and support integration across the region.

We created the Learning English platform so learners, support workers and communities can find the information they need more easily.

What is ESOL?

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages.

It is a type of English language learning for adults whose first language is not English. Classes can help people build confidence with speaking, reading, writing and listening in everyday situations.

This website helps people find ESOL providers, classes and learning opportunities across the East Midlands.
